The sciatic nerve is the thickest nerve in the human body. In some individuals it can be as wide as ¾ of an inch. Sciatica pain may vary in intensity, and it can go as far as immobilizing a person. Fortunately though, 90% of cases get well without surgery, but it takes some effort to overcome the pain. Today, there are some great essential oils for sciatica nerve pain that can bring you relief.
Lavender (Lavandula officinalis) is useful in treating spasms, sprains, strains, cramps, muscular contractions, lumbago, muscular aches and pains, sciatica and neuralgia. It has anti-inflammatory properties that ease swollen muscles, coumarin compounds that thin the blood and lower blood pressure as well as sedative properties that relieve nervous tension and insomnia
Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that help to treat neuralgia.
Sweet Marjoram – Sweet marjoram has many of the same properties as German chamomile. It acts as an anti-spasmatic and promotes deep relaxation. It is also a powerful stimulant and should not be used during pregnancy.
Cypress Oil – Cypress oil comes from the leaves (needles) and cones of the Mediterranean Cypress trees of Europe. It is used for stimulating blood circulation and is a powerful astringent. Like German chamomile and sweet marjoram, it is also an anti-spasmatic and often used to relieve the cramps, sprains, and strains of athletic injuries as well as the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.
