Company sells nearly 6,000 ‘alien abduction insurance’ policies

A Florida company is offering insurance policies in case of alien abductions — as in, if you find yourself abducted by aliens, your loved ones will still be cared for.

What are the details?

The St. Lawrence Agency in Altamonte Springs, Florida, decided to start selling the rather unique insurance policies after finding out that garden variety homeowner's policies just don't cover alien abductions.

The company's founder, Mike St. Lawrence, was prompted to create the business based on his finding.

"I went and I looked at my homeowner's insurance policy to see if I was covered for a risk like this and I was not," St. Lawrence explained.

"I take a very opened mind approach to this, whether it's happening or not," St. Lawrence — who says he's in the "humor business" — told WBTW-TV. "But if you get one of our policies, show you have a sense of humor about it."

If policyholders can prove that they were abducted by aliens, they can cash in on their policies. The agency requires an authorized "onboard alien" signature in order to effectively process the claim and cash out the policy.

"Some way, you have to be able to prove it and I have had a couple exceptions where they didn't get a signature," St. Lawrence added.

What else?

According to St. Lawrence, the company has sold nearly 6,000 alien abduction insurance policies, which start as low as $19.95 per month. Policyholders can receive up to $10 million, paid into annual installments over a period of 10 years.

St. Lawrence told the station that his company has paid out two policies so far.
Other coverages that fall under the policy umbrella include sarcasm coverage, outpatient psychiatric care, and double identity coverage.
