A pair of Atlanta's major pro sports teams — the Falcons of the NFL and the Hawks of the NBA — were thanked for partnering with the city's LGBTQ Affairs office to bring Drag Queen Story Hour to city hall recently.

"We want to thank our friends at the [Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons, Whole Foods, Georgia Beverage], and [Atlanta Pride] for partnering with us for Drag Queen Story Hour," the tweet read. "Thank you for your commitment to a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive Atlanta."
According to LifeSite News, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms invited Miss Terra Cotta Sugarbaker — aka Steven Igarashi-Ball — to perform after a Fulton County Library branch removed his Drag Queen Story Hour from the library system's event calendar and stopped promoting it.
The library event wasn't canceled, but the drag queen perceived the library's actions as a snub, the outlet said.
"Thank you to everyone who joined us at today's Drag Queen Story Hour with Mayor [Keisha Bottoms] and Miss Terra Cotta Sugarbaker," the city'stweet about the event read. "We are #OneAtlanta!"
Paulina Guzman — global engagement officer at City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of International Affairs — offered a description of what transpired.
"'It's Okay to be Different' and 'Mary Had a Little Glam' were read to Atlanta's kids and families at Saturday's Drag Queen Story Hour," she tweeted. "It's important to share positive messages of acceptance and confidence in our communities!"
The mayor noted to WGCL that "when you see how our domestic policies are under attack in this country, I think it's more important than ever that the city of Atlanta very publicly show[s] that we are still a welcoming and diverse city."
