Cops say she stole vape device from gas station store — but Lyft driver refused to aid her getaway. So she called Uber.

If there's anything positive to glean from this sad tale, at least she was apparently woke enough to not leave her carbon footprint.

Authorities told WFLA-TV that Kate Bailey Francis Lamothe, 24, asked a clerk at an Exxon gas station store for a Juul electronic cigarette Tuesday night.
But after the clerk handed her the vape device, Lamothe hightailed it from the Pinellas Park, Florida, establishment, the station said.

A lift from Lyft?

Thing is, when she tried to persuade her Lyft driver to transport her from the scene, the driver refused, WFLA said.

Undeterred, Lamothe called an Uber driver and began walking away from the Exxon station, Pinellas County deputies told WFLA.

But while an Uber van showed up, Lamothe didn't get very far — she was found in the van in a nearby parking lot, the station said.

Lamothe was arrested and charged with retail theft, WFLA said, adding that her arrest report indicates she admitted to taking the Juul device.

Oh, and the cost of the device? According to the arrest report, it was listed at $42.79, the station said.

subject charge report indicates Lamothe — a Chattanooga, Tennessee, resident — was released Wednesday evening on $150 cash bond.
