What is the Most heavily guarded location in the U.S.A.?
2
It’s actually a trick question…and the answer is both simple and HUGE.

Retired Professor from University of Texas at Dallas, Clay Reynolds, answers this question perfectly…
“The most heavily guarded location starts about 200 miles out from the United States.”
“The most heavily guarded location starts about 200 miles out from the United States.”
4
It’s called the Air Defense Identification Zone or ADIZ.
5
This hunk of joy is guarded mainly by the Air National Guard and USAF of each region.
6
Nothing, and I mean nothing gets in without the proper identification. Nothing has gotten in without authorization from the FAA or NORAD post 9/11.
7
“Let’s say you are flying. Cruising in your Cessna 350. Small single engine plane. And you are near the American ADIZ.”
8
“First, the nearest Control Tower will hail you and essentially tell you that you are close to the American ADIZ and either tell you to keep course or change trajectory if you are on track to penetrate without proper authorization.”

“But let’s say your radio isn’t working and you didn’t hear it and you are heading directly towards the American ADIZ. Well the FAA will be notified which will notify NORAD, North American Aerospace Defense Command. And they alert the nearest base of an impending penetration of the ADIZ.”

“Pilots will be put on standby and will essentially wait. While their planes will be fueled and outfitted with Air-to-Air missiles like the AIM-9 Sidewinder, and AIM-120 AMRAAM.”
11
“Then say you accidentally cruise within 200 miles into US airspace and actually penetrate the ADIZ.”
12
“Then the pilots will be “scrambled” to intercept.”
13
“The pilots will either already be in their planes or will run to them and get up in the air and begin their flight to you. In around 12 minutes you’ll have most likely 2–3 F-15’s, maybe F-16’s or F-22’s on your left side. One will go to see the pilot while the other 1–2 are behind the plane. And you’ll essentially see this.”
14
“The fighter pilot will establish visual contact with the pilot and will send another radio transmission, if unable to establish contact the pilot will use hand signals to direct. If unsuccessful he will flash his armament, and it’ll look like this…”

“They will again signal via hand signals and radio. If again unsuccessful the fighter will move in front and try to get you to follow him so your course can be corrected.”
16
“Now this next part really depends on your next moves. If you show hostile intent, like not responding to any signals or trying aggressive maneuvers with the fighter planes. Under US code 32.b gives the US authority to shoot down a plane they deem a threat to the United States once it reaches US territorial airspace or about 14 miles away from the US. “
17
“So after all that and you still are not responding. The F-15’s will climb and fall back to about a mile, the DOD will give the order to shoot down, then the lead plane will establish lock on, hold for final word and then if it’s still a go. “
18
“Then the pilot will yell out FOX-One or FOX-Two and away the missile flies. The AIM-7 and AIM-9 have a 98% hit percentage…”
19
“And that’s against military targets…”
20
“…let’s just say you’ll probably be shot down and go down over the water. If it misses or fails to fire, then the other F-15 will establish lock on and again fire.”
21
So the most heavily guarded? Would have to be the American ADIZ it has essentially the,
Entire US Air Force defends it
AND
Defends it with,
EXTREME prejudice”.

So, why AREA-52: ADIZ
North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) defends the Air Defense Identification Zone or ADIZ:
-49 U.S. States
-Sections of Canada
-Guam (Andersen Air Force Base)
-Washington, D.C.
“AREA-52”
Side-note:
Norfolk Naval Base, world’s largest naval base with F-22s at Langley AFB is probably the “real” answer (if not trick question). -Rick
