This image depicts a suffragist bound to a chair with a weight around her ankle. A locked vise is crushing her head, preventing her from speaking.
This one is particularly interesting to modern eyes. The further up the stairs she climbs, the worse it gets. Note the cracks in the stone, and the anguish of the woman the further away she gets from the floral-bedecked stairs of "home, children, and marriage." Woe betide her if she reaches the thorny cauldron of "fame" at the top!
