Long Island man is arrested and charged with murder after cops found him burning another man's body in his backyard at 2am

 A 20-year-old Long Island man has been charged with murder after police say they arrived at his home over the weekend to find him burning a body in his backyard.

Peter Pendzinski was taken into custody on Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder for allegedly killing a man and setting fire to his body.

According to a press release from the Suffolk Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a fire on the property of a residence on Mastic Boulevard in Shirley at around 2.30am on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man's body burning in the yard.  

After the blaze was extinguished, the victim's remains were taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and identify the victim.   


Pendzinski was taken to a local hospital to be treated for unspecified non-life-threatening injuries he suffered during the fire. 

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

According to police, Pendzinski resides in the home on Mastic Boulevard, which is owned by his father, reported Newsday

Detective have not disclosed a motive behind the killing.
