An 11-year-old child has been charged with murder for shooting and killing a woman, 62, in Colorado.
The young person, who has not been identified, is charged with second-degree murder following the death of Karmen Keefauver in Montrose County.
Officers and first responders were called to a property on December 19 after they received a report that a woman had been shot.
They took Keefauver to Montrose Memorial Hospital where she later died, The Denver Channel reports.

Following an investigation into her death they determined that the 11 year old was involved in the shooting
The child is in custody at Grand Mesa Youth Services.
Speaking about the incident, the sheriff's office sent its condolences to the woman's family.
Details about the circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be released by investigators.

nbc11news reported Patrol Lieutenant Cox with the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office said: 'There’s no threat to public safety at this point, we don’t have any other suspects.
'Tragic incidents like these affect us all, especially the Keefauver family, and our deepest condolences go out to the family.'
The incident is said to be rare for the area, with the last homicide taking place three years ago.
A relationship between the victim and the child has not been shared.
