One suspect was killed, another was wounded, and three law enforcement officers were injured after an exchange of gunfire during a police chase that ended in a shooting in Georgia on Monday morning, authorities said.
Carroll County sheriff’s spokesperson Investigator Ashley Hulsey said the chase was initiated by the Georgia State Patrol in Bremen and ended near Georgia 61 and Flat Rock Road, just south of Interstate 20.
Law enforcement officials said on Monday that the incident began with a traffic stop on Interstate 20.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper stationed near Villa Rica, about 50 miles west of Atlanta, noticed a Nissan sedan that was clocked at 111mph. The trooper pulled the Nissan over to the side of the road and approached the vehicle.

Moments later, a chase ensued, during which the trooper performed a 'pit maneuver' - a tactic used by law enforcement officers to get a speeding car to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to stop.
The pit maneuver was successful, but the driver managed to regain control of the car and the chase continued.
That's when one of the suspects who was armed with a rifle fired gunshots at the trooper's vehicle, disabling it. The trooper then radioed local law enforcement in the area.
Officers from the Carrollton Police Department initiated their own pursuit of the vehicle as it sped toward Villa Rica. One CDP officer, Rob Holloway, was shot in the head and chest during the chase.
Holloway's bulletproof vest stopped the bullet that hit his chest. His head wound required him to undergo surgery.
According to the Carrollton Police Department, Holloway will remain in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for at least the next few days.
The Villa Rica Police Department then joined the chase. One of its officers, Chase Gordy, suffered a gunshot wound, according to officials.
Gordy, who was struck twice by the suspect, was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The third wounded officer, Jay Repetto, is from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. He was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.
Additional details weren’t immediately released. DailyMail.com has sought comment from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Police activity is blocking the area. Drivers will need to take Ga. 113 or Liberty Road to get around the closures.
Photos showed multiple police vehicles blocking a road.
'It could have been a lot worse, and we’re thankful and we pray for the speedy recovery of those officers,' Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langley said.
'In regards to the Officer involved incident this morning involving multiple agencies, the scene has been contained and there is no threat to the public at this time,' the Carroll County Sheriff's Office said in a statement on its Facebook page.
'More details will be released as we are coordinating with all involved agencies.'
