Joe Rogan slammed the New York Times, CNN, Brian Stelter, and Don Lemon during a recent podcast episode featuring Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
The two media moguls discussed how their views of traditional media powerhouses have eroded in recent years. Rogan blasted the New York Times as being "full of s**t" during the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast episode released on Thursday.
Rogan declared that legacy media outlets are "dying."
"All those media companies, nobody trusts them anymore," Rogan proclaimed. "And the reason nobody trusts them anymore is because they're not trustworthy."
"[Mainstream media] is controlled by these corporate interests that really care more about money than they do about anything else," Rogan continued. "If you think that, like the way, the Washington Post, the New York Times is really just about getting out the truth, that’s not real. They have an ideology that they adhere to."
Portnoy chimed in, "If I wasn't doing what I was doing, I would still sort of believe the New York Times was like a real thing."
Rogan agreed, "Yeah, 100 percent. If I didn't have a podcast. You know, I didn't talk to people all the time and talk to people from different walks of life and different perspectives and different careers, I would have no idea."
Rogan needled, "If I was just a comic, I would kind of vaguely know that they're probably corrupt, and vaguely know that they're full of s**t."
"Especially if you have a regular job, where you don't have the time to be looking into this s**t," the prolific podcaster continued. "You're busy all day, and then maybe have a family and obligations and f***ing bills that are piling up, and you don't have the time to be sorting out whether or not the Washington Post is being honest about gender-affirming care."
Rogan revealed that he is skeptical about getting the news from the mainstream media because it is "so controlled by advertising." He pointed to pharmaceutical companies — which spent $4.6 billion in national TV advertisements in 2020.
"If you think that they are going to have an unbiased negative perspective on pharmaceutical drugs in the pharmaceutical industry, that's not going to happen," he said. "They're going to suppress down because it's bad for the business to shut them down."
Rogan said, "You're not going to get an unbiased, really honest perspective on anything that has to do with pharmaceutical companies from any of these mainstream news platforms that rely on pharmaceutical companies for ads."
Rogan said he gets his news from independent journalists like Matt Taibbi, Glenn Greenwald, and "Breaking Points" hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti.
"Even if you don’t agree with them, you know they’re not lying," he said. "You can have opinions that I don't agree with and I 100% support your ability to do that. But I want you to be honest, I want you to tell me what the actual data says. And I want your perspective on that data even if I don't agree with it because at least I know you're telling me the truth."
Rogan noted how CNN's ratings have collapsed since former President Donald Trump left office.
He mentioned how former CNN host Brian Stelter attacked him during the pandemic.
"In fact, I gained 2 million subscribers during that month," Rogan explained. "So that was what was wild about it. It had the opposite effect that was intended."
Rogan said "little fatso Brian Stelter" was on CNN talking "s**t" about him, but his podcast only became more popular.
Rogan said Portnoy and Fox News host Greg Gutfeld have had amazing success because they are talking to their audience like a "regular guy."
He then lambasted CNN anchor Don Lemon for being fake.
"When you're listening to Don Lemon talk, you don't get any of that," he said. "Nobody talks like that."
Portnoy warned that the left is far superior at controlling the online conversation by censoring its political opponents.
"For whatever reason, one thing that also I think is kind of self-evident if you’re talking left and right, the left is far more savvy with social media," Portnoy opined. "The right generally wants to just sling it out. They’ll let you say anything, and they’re not going to complain. They’re not going to say like, 'Oh that’s a violation' and complain. The left will, and it's a good tactic to get the right off."
Rogan weighed in, "But it’s also because the left is in control of all of the social media platforms, whereas the right has nothing. There's no social media platform. There’s people that try to accuse Elon Musk of being right-wing, but I think that’s just because Elon Musk has said that Democrats are out of their f***ing minds."
Rogan said that "one of the most substantial and significant aspects" of Musk buying Twitter is the release of the Twitter Files.
"Where you’re getting to see the actual involvement of intelligence agencies, the actual banned lists, and blocked lists, and shadow-banned, and how they're suppressing people’s signals," Rogan said. "It’s pretty f***ing wild s**t, and it’s almost entirely done to people that are on the right, and then the people on the left that are dissenters."
