Kyrsten Sinema Reveals Why She Stopped Going To ‘Dumb’ Democrat Luncheons

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) revealed why she stopped going to what she called “dumb” Democrat luncheons with “old dudes” sitting around “eating Jell-O” and everyone bragging about themselves.

The 46-year-old former Democrat-turned-independent reportedly told GOP lobbyists that “caucus lunches” were a total waste of time and nothing she had any interest in attending again, POLITICO reported.

“Lunches were ridiculous. … Old dudes are eating Jell-O, everyone is talking about how great they are,” Sinema said. “I don’t really need to be there for that. That’s an hour and a half twice a week that I can get back.”

“The Northerners and the Westerners put cool whip on their Jell-O, and the Southerners put cottage cheese,” she added as she continued to poke fun at members of her former party.

Sinema also made it clear she wasn’t caucusing with Democrats and explained that she spends her days doing more “productive” things for her constituents.

“I’m formally aligned with the Democrats for committee purposes,” Sinema said. “But apart from that I am not a part of the caucus.”

“I spend my days doing productive work, which is why I’ve been able to lead every bipartisan vote that’s happened the last two years,” she added.

Sinema declared in December that she was leaving the Democratic Party and registering as an independent.

“Arizonans – including many registered as Democrats or Republicans – are eager for leaders who focus on common-sense solutions rather than party doctrine,” Sinema wrote at the time in an opinion column published in The Arizona Republic.

“But if the loudest, most extreme voices continue to drive each party toward the fringes – and if party leaders stay more focused on energizing their bases than delivering for all Americans – these kinds of lasting legislative successes will become rarer,” she added.

“It’s no wonder a growing number of Americans are registering as independents. … When politicians are more focused on denying the opposition party a victory than they are on improving Americans’ lives, the people who lose are everyday Americans,” Sinema continued. “I have joined the growing numbers of Arizonans who reject party politics by declaring my independence from the broken partisan system in Washington.”
