Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis both signaled this week that they were happy with the outcome of their recent private meeting and that they are both committed to working together moving forward.
The meeting in Miami, Florida, on Sunday was set up by real estate broker Steve Witkoff, who is a friend of Trump and has a relationship with DeSantis. Witkoff also attended the meeting.
“I am very happy to have the full and enthusiastic support of Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida,” Trump posted on social media. “We had a great meeting.”
“The conversation mostly concerned how we would work closely together to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” he continued. “Also discussed was the future of Florida, which is FANTASTIC! I greatly appreciate Ron’s support in taking back our Country from the Worst President in the History of the United States. November 5th is a BIG DAY!!!”
The New York Times reported that the three men “met alone in a private room at Shell Bay,” a development and golf club that Witkoff owns.
Trump is looking for DeSantis’ help in fundraising to keep up with President Joe Biden’s donations, and DeSantis is looking to get back to the point where he is widely viewed by many as the future of the Republican Party, as a poll conducted earlier this year found that he is the frontrunner for the party’s nomination in 2028.
DeSantis said during a Fox News interview on Thursday that he and Trump connected on a lot of things during their meeting, including on how their families were doing.
The governor said that he was going to be “active in a variety of capacities” to help Trump and other Republican candidates win their races this fall.
“It was just a good meeting and a good conversation,” he said. “He understands the importance of this election.”
“He understands the damage that Biden is doing, and I think you would see 180 degree different policies if we’re able to win in November, which it’s important that we do,” he added.
