House Republican Moves To Impeach VP Harris As She Runs For Presidency

Rep. Anthony Ogles (R-TN) introduced on Tuesday articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now running for the presidency after President Joe Biden abruptly ended his re-election campaign and endorsed Harris to be his successor.

POLITICO’s Olivia Beavers posted to X screenshots of the resolution accusing Harris of “high crimes and misdemeanors” related to her handling of the migrant crisis as “border czar” and for allegedly misleading the American people about Biden’s physical and cognitive health.

“Time and again, Kamala Harris has refused to uphold her oath to the U.S. Constitution, and she must be impeached,” Ogles told The Daily Caller. “Her breathtaking incompetence as Border Czar has allowed a crisis of drugs, rape, and murder to flood the streets of America.”

He also said Harris “knowingly breached the public’s trust by failing to invoke the 25th Amendment after it became clear that Joe Biden was mentally and physically unfit to serve as president,” and declared “immediate action must be taken.”

Biden, 81, dropped out over the weekend. Allies had been pressuring him to step aside after a fumbling debate performance late last month spurred concerns about his mental acuity and electability. Biden quickly endorsed Harris for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

Harris has gathered the support of enough delegates to win the nomination, although the process remains open and another challenger could emerge before voting begins. Harris’ campaign boasted a significant fundraising haul in the first 24 hours and she is seeking a running mate.

Ogles, who is facing a Republican primary in Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District on August 1 and has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, previously introduced articles of impeachment against Biden and Harris last year.

Punchbowl News senior congressional reporter Melanie Zanona reactedto Ogles’ new resolution by posting to X, “More examples of the (entirely symbolic) efforts by the GOP to pivot their attacks from Biden to Kamala Harris, now that she is the presumptive Dem nominee.”

Earlier on Tuesday, third-ranking House Republican, Rep. Elise Stefanik(R-NY), unveiled a resolution that would have the GOP-led House condemn Harris for her inability as the Biden administration’s “border czar” to quell the migrant crisis if the measure is passed.
