Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump slammed Vice President Kamala Harris during a rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend for her role in the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous withdraw from Afghanistan in 2021.
Trump brought up the embarrassing withdrawal after the Taliban paradedaround billions of dollars worth of U.S. military hardware this week on the three-year anniversary of the country’s collapse.
“Two days ago, I watched a parade of the Taliban in Afghanistan,” Trump said. “Did you see the Taliban where they were showing all of our equipment that they took from America? $85 billion worth, two days ago, celebrating three years of the defeat of America by these guys.”
He highlighted how his strength in projecting American military power convinced the Taliban to stop attacking U.S. forces in the country for a year and a half.
“For 18 months, we didn’t have one American soldier killed in Afghanistan,” he said. “And then I left and this bunch of incompetent people took over, and it all started up again.”
Trump said that the event was the “most embarrassing day in the history of our country” and noted that Harris had bragged about how she was “the last person in the room” when the administration decided to withdraw from the country.
“In other words, she had the final vote, and she bragged about it,” he said. “It’s been the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country, Afghanistan. It should have never, ever happened. We should have gotten out with dignity and strength. And you don’t take your military out first, you take your military out last.”
