Democrat Debbie Dingell Doubles Down On Claim Trump Will Put People In Internment Camps

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) doubled down Saturday on her claim that former President Donald Trump will put people in internment camps if he wins next week’s election.

Dingell made the remarks on Fox News after she claimed earlier the week on CNN that Trump wanted to “start internment camps.”

“You feared that if Donald Trump would win this race, you and others like you would be thrown in internment camps,” said host Neil Cavuto. “You said the same about Muslims and Arabs if Donald Trump won.”

“Do you regret those comments?” he asked.

“No, I don’t regret those comments,” Dingell responded. “And I’m going to be very clear–”

Cavuto interrupted: “You really think you would be thrown into an internment camp?”

“You, a sitting U.S. congresswoman?” he asked. “That’s what you said.”

Dingell then claimed that she was half joking when she made the remark, but she was still serious about it.

“I said it as a joke,” she said. “Now let me be very clear on this. And I want to be very clear on this. I said it half sarcastically. Donald Trump has been very clear that he is going to go what he calls ‘the enemy from within.'”

“I think we’re all Americans, and you can disagree agreeably,” she continued. “He names his enemies by name. I do not think it is okay to say someone should have eight barrels pointed at their face.”

Cavuto pushed back, saying that Trump never mentioned internment camps.

“So what made you take it to that level?” he asked. “If you criticize his language, you criticize his language, that’s pretty inflammatory language in and of itself.”

Dingell claimed that she would send Cavuto “10 articles” that supported her claims.

“He has talked about detention camps,” she claimed. “He has talked about banning Muslims. He did. One of the first things he tried to do when he became president–”

When pressed again about whether she stood by her remarks that Trump was going to put people in internment camps and if she was trying to put fear in people’s minds, Dingell deflected, claiming: “I believe he has talked about– he has talked about detention camps.”
